Game art

decalWhen I was 15 I was addicted to a computer game called “Descent”. In the game, you flew a ship around in underground tunnels shooting robots, it was enormously good fun. The makers of the original game are now creating a spiritual successor, known as “Overload“, and it will likely ship with a custom level editor. I have been thinking about what kinds of graphics I would like to see in the game, and decided to have a go at creating some level art. The interactive below uses a PBL shader (which is also used in the game AFAIK). I have not done any PBL shading before and I can see I have a lot more to learn, but I have enjoyed the process a great deal.

    Very cool, I assume the textures are bump mapped? Also, the iframely site is very handy to know, thanks for that. And lastly, some kids on the weekend knicked some of our fridge magnets, hhmmm…

      The textures are normal mapped, which is very similar to a bump map. Looks like there’s a fridge magnet fiend on the loose, be sure to sleep with one eye open
